Subject: Binford Rd. Novato

Dear Supervisor Lucan,

I am writing to request your attention to the encampment on Binford Rd in our community. As a concerned resident, I have noticed an increase in the number of RVs and makeshift shelters in the area, and I believe it is important that we take action to address this issue. The encampment has been a growing concern for the community, with increased litter, and safety hazards. There is also environmental damage to the area, with improper disposal of waste and other hazardous materials. These conditions are not only unhealthy and unsafe for those living in the encampment but also for the surrounding community.

I am requesting that until the encampment can be shut down the county increase sanitation efforts, and provide regular or full-time monitoring by law enforcement. I understand that this is a complex issue and there are no easy solutions, but I believe that we must take action to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.

Your website states:

“Eric Lucan, current Mayor of the City of Novato, has a strong track record in elected office, community service, and business. He is a known local leader who is passionate about helping kids and seniors, protecting our environment, and giving our workers, students, and small businesses a chance to succeed in a changing economy. He listens to constituents, develops creative solutions, and stays focused on achieving real, measurable results.”

I fail to see how allowing armed convicted sex offenders that are selling methamphetamine and fentanyl to reside illegally in our community is in alignment with the statement on your website. I own a commercial building at 850 Grant where three small businesses operate. I can state with 100% confidence that none of the small business owners support the policies that have allowed the situation at Binford Rd to exist.  My wife used to run on the trails near Binford Rd. several days a week. She is now afraid to even drive to the trailhead.  As an environmentalist, I can’t see how the current conditions at Binford Rd. are good for the environment.

My parents moved to Novato in 1966 the year I was born. I raised my three kids in Novato and continue to live in Novato just outside City limits. The Binford Rd situation is talked about at dinner parties, backyard BBQs, and local sporting events. Everyone I talk to about Binford Rd feels our elected officials are failing our community.

If there is a plan or policy in place to address the situation at Binford Rd. please share.

I am happy to meet with you to discuss this issue in depth. Feel free to call my cell if you want to talk or schedule a meeting.  I am happy to invite the business owners at 850 Grant if you want to meet small business owners and get their opinion on this issue.

Best regards,
