Hi Eric,
Thanks for the response. I know that Marin County is throwing money at Binford like crazy. I’m concerned that there is no strategy in place for permanently removing the vehicle encampment from the wetlands. I understand that this is a complex issue involving many parties; however, the County’s approach (or lack thereof) is completely unsustainable. Furthermore, I believe that the County is creating a larger problem for us by focusing time, energy and both financial and human resources to providing more amenities to Binford Road, instead of focusing on removing the encampment from that location. I appreciate that there has been some progress in removing abandoned vehicles. I would expect that with the number of years that this has been an issue, the County would have already devised a thoughtfully-designed Strategic Plan. It doesn’t appear to me that the County is committed to a long-term solution for the vehicle encampment or the problem of it contaminating the Rush Creek Preserve.
I’m open to a phone call if you’re open to discussing long-term solutions. I care deeply about those wetlands and I deeply care about protecting open space and natural resources, particularly in Novato. I love this city and I’m truly saddened to see what the County is allowing to happen here. We’re counting on you to stand up for us. I think you know that this would have been dealt with long ago if it was happening somewhere like Ross or Larkspur or Tiburon. I imagine that you’re being torn in many directions within your role — and I hope that you’ll pull the County back on course to protect the wetlands and find more appropriate housing for the individuals who truly need help.
Thank you for representing our District. Please help us make it better.
Sincerely,
Naya Calmels
